A Piece of Hope is a calligraphically based sculpture. The inspiration came from Curtis' wife, artist Tari Swenson, who is also a calligrapher.

The piece was made in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. The two worked up a clay model of the letter "O" written in brush on paper and Curtis fabricated the piece in steel.
