Quartzite Boulder
8’x6”x6’x6”x30”
2009
The sculpture is made from Cheshire quartzite, formed about 420 million years ago and brought to the surface by the Hinesburg fault in Bristol, VT. The circular void, perhaps the most iconic of archetypes, marks the passing of the stone through the Anthropocene, the current era when people inhabit the earth. Lacking intentional destruction, this object is very likely to witness a very long future, long after the extension of Homo sapiens.
